Starting To Make A Change

Think you can not change? Many of us already know that we need in our state of wellbeing in order to prolong our lives as we age to get better. Making changes is traditionally difficult but the good news is that it is never too late to change for the better. The first step is to understand what is important to you, and then determine choices and decisions wherever you want to be. Maybe you want a new career, lose weight, stop smoking or start exercising. What is the change, make sure you understand why you want to change.

Take a moment to think about a time in your life when you’ve made a successful transition or developed a new habit. What was your motivation for change? What was your position at the moment? What obstacles or barriers you have overcome? Your level of readiness for change will determine how successful you are and how long it will last. Once the decision to change, you need to practice new behavior one day at a time until it becomes a habit – a permanent change.

What makes some people change while others do not? According to Dr. James Prochaska, developer of the ‘Stages of Change Model, “People cycle through a number of very different stages when you make changes in their lives – from not interested in making changes, all the way by maintaining a change after it did. This is the real challenge for everyone, because resistance is always the first reaction to make a change. Sometimes people do not see the positive side of change until it is shown it (or until they are forced to realize it on their own). Change is a choice. It is something we decide to do. The same goes for spa – it is a choice, and once you have decided to change, you will feel better feel.

Embraces the concept of change is a great thing, because interesting, many people believe they have no choice when it comes to change. Why? For some, the fear guilt, love, pain, time management or even a court order. What motivates one person may not be the same that another person will act. Each reacts differently to changes in weather voluntary or mandatory.

Starting to make a change, let go of certain assumptions or ways of doing things, to make room for new ideas. The work on this one day at a time until you feel comfortable. This is often in the game when I’m working with a sedentary people to their activity level (people who work a lot and do not have much time to practice) to create. One of my clients’ complaints were: “I do not want to one hour or 30 minutes to take that ride.”

My solution was that about two-minute intervals, which would represent 30 minutes during the day – seems to suggest, and stand up, walk around and people visiting throughout the office, for example. The result was a success. He was persecuted and actually more comfortable as a result! Once he was comfortable with that move, I got him to 10 minutes intervals three times a day. Now he is running 30 minutes at a time and enjoy it. All this took place over a few months.

For a permanent change, you start where you are and a little bit more each time to stretch. If you fall out of the cart, or experience resistance, what the cause or circumstances of who you were when you were, or your emotional state. The key is to get up and back on the road. You can go back and forth a few times, because a lasting change is difficult. Your level of readiness for change will determine how successful you are and how long it will last. But you must be ready, able and willing to make changes happen.
